Who We Are

Squamish Nation consists of 23 villages and is comprised of descendants of the Coast Salish Aboriginal people who live in the present-day Greater Vancouver area, Gibson’s Landing, and Squamish River watershed. The Squamish Nation has occupied and governed the territory since beyond recorded history. The Squamish Nation's culture is rich and resilient. We continue to practice our customs and traditions, which are strongly interconnected with our traditional territory. As an organization, we provide support to the greater Squamish Nation Community through service. With 12 departments with individual areas of expertise, we ensure Community Members have access to necessary programs and services.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Working as an integral part of the Ta na wa Chen̓tm Council Advisory & Support Department, this position reports directly to the Manager – Governance, Policy, and Special Projects. this position will work in collaboration with their manager and senior management to understand the political landscape and policies of external governments and the potential impact it could have on the priorities of the Squamish Nation. You will work in supporting the development and implementation of the Nation's political positioning and ensuring that important external policies and programs have properly incorporated Squamish values and mindful of the Nation's priorities. The incumbent is a skilled information gatherer, a highly effective verbal and written communicator, and has strong analytical thinking. This role also requires sound judgment and excellent organizational abilities. The position is responsible for reviewing and evaluating a variety of programs, services, and policies, and undertaking assignments of considerable importance in the development of policy and its implementation. This position will conceptualize and lead policy projects involving original research, develop partnerships with external organizations, conduct policy research, and issues monitoring, and prepare materials including briefings, presentations, proposals, submissions, and other policy documents as needed.

  Starting Salary: $ 78,128 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits program.
